UK-built creep-feed grinders

It was in 1996 that IMTS introduced its three-machine range of Rochester creep-feed grinders, based on what is essentially a standard surface grinder sourced from overseas. Certain parts are made to IMTS's own specification, including the bed (in particular, the profile of the slide rails) and the spindle assembly. IMTS also fits its own hydraulic valve, which it developed to provide constant oil flow - and thus feed - regardless of temperature and pressure.

Most of these machines are bought by sub-contractors to the aerospace industry for the creep-feed grinding of aero engine blades and vanes. That said, they are also used for applications in the electronics industry, as well as by manufacturers of machine knives and carbide inserts. They offer table sizes ranging from 8 x 18in to 12 x 24in, they are fully en- closed and they feature a high-pressure coolant system. The basic models have a two-axis DRO and constant surface speed. Two-axis CNC is available as an option, and a three- axis CNC version is due for launch.

Also available from IMTS is a wide range of profile and radius dressers, including hydraulic and CNC versions.
